Series: Teachings of Jesus

I’m sitting at a railroad track and I just remembered my commitment to start a blog series on the teachings of Jesus the Messiah.

Of course everything Jesus says is profound, but I want to hone in on this verse as the basis for the series:

But I have a greater witness than John—My teachings and My miracles. The Father gave Me these works to accomplish, and they prove that He sent Me.
John 5:36

The Father gave Jesus His teachings and His miracles as proof that God sent Him. That means as we study the teachings of Christ they will give us the evidence we need to believe He is sent by God as Messiah and because He was sent by God we can trust His teachings are a roadmap to Heaven.

Day One:

Parable of the Sower.

I chose this parable because Jesus said:

“Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any of the parables?” (Matthew 4:13)

As we delve into this series I would like to use this parable to note the truth, not all will understand the teachings of Jesus. The teachings are treasures and the understanding is preserved for the elect. Let’s begin.

Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
Matthew 13:3‭-‬9

Jesus often uses the phrase, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” Proverbs 20:12 says ears to hear and eyes to see are gifts from the Lord.

Prayer: Heavenly Father please give me ears to hear and eyes to see wonderful things in Your Word. (Psalm 119:18). You reward those who diligently seek You (Hebrews 11:3), please help me to seek diligently, in Jesus Name Amen.

We are blessed to live in a time where we have the explanation given to the disciples about this parable recorded:

“Now listen to the explanation of the parable about the farmer planting seeds: The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message about the Kingdom and don’t understand it. Then the evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their hearts. The seed on the rocky soil represents those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word. The seed that fell among the thorns represents those who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is produced. The seed that fell on good soil represents those who truly hear and understand God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!”
Matthew 13:18‭-‬23

Wow. I’m always so amazed by everything my Savior says.

Major takeaways from this parable:

1. A lack of understanding concerning the message of the Kingdom of Heaven prevents bearing fruit.

2. Those who don’t have deep roots will not bear fruit because problems or persecution will cause them to fall away.

3. Worries of this life and the lure of wealth will prevent a hearer from producing fruit.

4. Only those who truly hear and understand the Word produce fruit.

This parable and the truth Jesus explains about it is worth meditating and praying on. Cut distractions and draw near to God to hear His Word. We are in perilous times (2 Timothy chapter 3 and 1 Timothy 4:1,2) and only those who love, hear, and understand the Word of God will escape the deception (2 Thessalonians2:7-12).

About the times and the seasons: Brothers, you do not need anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know very well that the Day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. When they say, “Peace and security,” then sudden destruction comes on them, like labor pains come on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in the dark, for this day to overtake you like a thief. For you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. So then, we must not sleep, like the rest, but we must stay awake and be serious. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, we must be serious and put the armor of faith and love on our chests, and put on a helmet of the hope of salvation. For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:1‭-‬11

Dig In:

I recently released the track Pains of Change. I thought it would be a good starting point to introduce myself on the podcast. The song begins with the lines:

“Its the pains of change necessary for growth

It ain’t no in between your either in the ocean or the boat

As I quote over notes I no longer drink or smoke

Although sometimes I miss those folks

Without that life I found new hope”

The new hope I found came from studying the Word of God for myself. I sat down one day with my heart set on getting to know who God is and why He made me. I wanted to understand what He wanted me to do with my life because everything I seemed to do was failing miserably. Let me clarify what I mean by “failing”. Money was not the issue, possessions, friends, etc were not the issue. The issue was my dissatisfaction and lack of fulfillment. The issue was my awareness that God wanted me to be something different than I was at the time. When I sat down to read the Word of God, my eyes were opened.

Nothing has impacted me greater than the study of Jesus Christ in the books Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. I fell in love with Jesus, I came to reverence Him as LORD and believe the very words He spoke were the Words of God. The thing about it is there is no way that I could read the words of Jesus and conclude that my lifestyle at the time was acceptable. On the contrary I read His Word and realized I was in deep need of God’s forgiveness and salvation because the judgment of eternal damnation that was pending for me at the time was just. I was ecstatic when I finally came to grips with the truth that God loved me so much that He allowed Jesus to pay the punishment for my sins and I gained the privilege of imitating and living like Him.

As we go through this journey of exalting Christ and studying the Word of God my hope is that we will thoroughly experience the joy of knowing Jesus and the hope of resurrection. Let’s keep heaven on our mind and leave everything that is not like Christ behind.

“But everything that was a gain to me, I consider to be a loss because of Christ. 8. More than that, I also consider everything to be a loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Because of Him I have suffered the loss of all things and consider them filth, so that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own from the law, but one that is through faith in Christ -the righteousness from God based on faith. 10 My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 that I will somehow reach the resurrection from among the dead.” (Phillipians 3:7-11)

Embrace the New Season

I had a friend remind me about seasons the other day. It’s been a mixture of ups and downs lately. I will not complain cause all things are working for good.

I can see it is important to embrace the new season I am in on alot of levels. Getting married means new dreams, new visions, a new way of living, and collaborating on pursuing forward together.

My husband and I both found ourselves needing a sense of refreshing and renewal in our purpose. It was like looking up one day and just feeling stagnant and far from what we believe we are called to accomplish.

The only way to get to where we are going is to pursue change. Create new habits and live life differently.

As a married woman I realize I have to start setting some goals. I’m starting with some self-assessment of myself as a servant of God, woman, and wife.

I have to implement some structure and routine for the things that matter most.

God showed me along time ago how important praying for my husband is. I’m two months in and I haven’t been consistent enough in this area. It’s not that I have not prayed at all but I haven’t prayed enough.

New Season means sowing differently so the fruit and harvest can be different.

As a woman I have got to be about my business, by that I mean my literal business Ishshah Clothing. I can and will do more.

Most importantly as a servant of God, I have to give it ALL I have. Time will tell what that looks like.

So my newlywed lesson right now is embrace the new season. Marriage brings change I have to acknowledge it and navigate it.

I’m grateful to God for my husbands love. This man loves me like I’ve never experienced. His servant heart, kind nature, thoughtfulness, compassion, and grace have opened my eyes to what it means to be cherished. He is devoted to loving me well. We are super new to this, but true to it. With God on our side we are about to level up!

Let’s begin and finish something great!

The Married Life

“The whole essence of two becoming one is entrusting more of yourself to your partner.”

I’m learning so much about marriage as we take this journey.

Marriage is deep. Communication is probably one of the most essential aspects.

Marriage is not the same thing as dating in the sense that, the largest focus of a dating relationship is often romance.

I’m seeing that marriage is probably 30 percent romance, but companionship and communication seem to take up a larger quantity of the pie for a healthy relationship.

Trust is such a big factor for the marriage to progress and deepen.

The whole essence of two becoming one is entrusting more of yourself to your partner.

The more open and inclusive you are with/of your partner the more the team can capitalize on its strengths.

A large part of the trust aspect when you have sought God for your mate is believing that He has provided a sufficient compliment.
